Car
These systems can be after-market installed (Nationally) to any vehicle in less than a day and are now available at Ultimate Design from around £1100 +vat
The ultimate navigation system has just become affordable
We can now also offer multiple vehicle fitting kits @ £245+vat, allowing the economy and convenience of quickly transferring the system from vehicle to vehicle (takes around 5 mins!)
Why spend over £1100 on a load of complicated electronics that will no doubt remain as alien to operate as the video-recorder, when I can nip down to WHS and buy a few maps?
Hmm, did you say a few maps? -- If you were to buy all the maps, street guides etc. covered in the supplied navigation CD Rom, on this alone Car
in is looking pretty reasonable!Car
in is also reliable and totally intuitive to operate. Childs play adults get on pretty well without the manual too! Since Carin knows precisely where you are Picadilly Circus or Champs Elyses, you merely need to type in your destination using the convenient illuminated remote control. The system even has a quick intelisearch which homes in on your destination, often after only the first few characters have been entered. You can enter multiple destinations, change route at anytime (TMC compatible for traffic jam avoidance) or simply ignore the spoken instructions (yes SPOKEN instructions) as and when you feel. Car
in simply continually recalculates the required route without you even having to press a single button!Anyway, enough of the details for the moment
Imagine you are in central London and you are off on your holidays, headed for Uig on the Western Isles of Scotland.
For all you motorists who don't have 30 years of national commercial driving experience - it goes something like this.....
Drive around for half an hour or so finding a newsagent with parking space and buy yourself a nice new A to Z and current road atlas. Fumble through a book that is much happier closed than open and eventually find where you are.
Plan a route out of town, smile at the traffic warden, take her advice and move on, just when you were getting the hang of reading impossibly small print and trying to string together numerous pages. Glance down at the guide, xxxx it has gone back to it's favourite shape! Find another place to park - start again.
When you finally get to the edge of town, stop and try and calculate the best route to the Western Isles using the road atlas. - Soon be an experienced cartographer.- O.K. better make some notes, hmmm, knew there was something else you wanted from Smiths on your second visit?
Put map and notes on passenger seat and set off with that confident feeling that all is now under control....spot a speed camera, hit the brakes, errrr now where did those notes go to!? - Shouldn't have been trying to make up for lost time. Rummage around for notes on the floor - must be among the bags somewhere, hmm better pull over...somewhere.
Notes firmly wedged, off we go. Where did this junction come from - back to the map. Only halfway there and its getting dark - should have bought a luminous pen, can't read the notes - still firmly in place though. Drive, stop, read the notes, drive, stop, read the map. Stop. Great, traffic hold up that's all you need.
Consider re-routing, can't find the magnifying glass. Consider crying. Why is everyone hooting at you - can't they see your having a crisis? Traffic slows again, better take that turning. Stop, spend 20 mins recalculating route. Hit roadworks detour....
Frustrated? Upset? Lost? Late? DON'T PANIC !
Imagine Car
inThe precise location of your vehicle is identified by the GPS (Global Positioning System) which means all you have to do is enter the destination address of your journey, right down to an individual street number or road junction if you wish. Then relax and enjoy a much more enjoyable, safer and more efficient drive.
Car
in will not only guide you through your entire journey, but will also advise you of motorway service stations and other points of interest from literally dozens of possible lists.Car
in is available in 3 formats:Car
in 420 & Carin 440 incorporates Carin navigation technology into your audio system, ie integrated into a cd tuner (Carin 440) or incorporated into a cassette tuner (Carin 420 ) whereas Carin 520 is a dedicated navigation system (with auto-mute output and TMC connections to your stereo)All systems are controlled with a user friendly remote control and use a cd-rom with all the A-Z road information digitised on to it.
Going to the continent? - No problem, the supplied UK Rom incorporates principal European roads alternatively you can purchase additional discs, for each country or group of countries. Please request list of current countries covered.
The cd-rom drive is only as big as a conventional in car CD player (The 420 & 440 are standard DIN fitment!), the only difference being the 520 can go in the boot or some other convenient location. Other components are a matchbox sized antenna, capable of receiving up to eight GPS satellites, which fits onto the dashboard or rear shelf, and also the screen which shows the vital travel information. The voice guidance comes from a small speaker mounted in the screen which can be mounted virtually anywhere you wish.
If you accidentally take a wrong turn, or are diverted, Car
in can cope. Just one push of a button and the unit will find an alternative route for you, so you really can't get lost. Some people call it Satellite Navigation, others call it Car
in, their personal secretary.Principal System Features:
Carin 440
Carin 522
Carin truly is the end to all that frustration (and arguments!) we have all had to endure up till now during unfamiliar trips. Make every trip a pleasure take Carin with you Carin is real, no artificially created speech. Her dulcet tones soothe the most furrowed of brows (and whats more your wife will welcome her into your car!)
Carin is equally at home in an exotic luxury car as she is in a delivery truck, a sales executives company car or an RV motorhome. Be it business or pleasure, we all need the stress relief that only Carin provides in our busy fast moving world.
The technical bit:
Carin 522 is comprised of 3 principal components. The new 16:9 wide screen super sharp LCD screen, the back illuminated cordless remote control, and the CD Rom drive (CD deck).
The deck is small enough to fit under seats or in the boot without robbing valuable cargo space. The remote control can be replaced in its holder which is hard-wired into the system to allow continued operation, even in the event that the batteries should fail. The screen is only an inch thick and can therefore be mounted unobtrusively in most vehicles. The speaker is contained within the screen, with an optional high quality extension speaker.
The incredibly accurate navigation (hitherto impossible by electronic systems) is now possible from a small Welsh cottage in a remote hamlet to a café in the centre of Paris! For travelling sales executives and delivery drivers, you can be sure of entering your destination quickly and easily and expect to arrive at the door! Without once having to look at a map. Imagine how much time and fuel can be saved
The system revolves around (no pun intended!) the CD Rom. This incredible depository of information is updated continuously and is available as a new release every 6 months (approx. £99+vat) As technology improves, more and more information is squeezed onto the disc. In addition to the latest mapping and route calculating techniques it can hold 45 different lists of local information; ranging from Hotels, car parks and filling stations to restaurants, complete with reservation telephone numbers.
Car
in the personal secretary you can always take with you!Car
in technology incorporates:All these data inputs are then computed by Car
in to provide an incredibly fast and accurate fix in real time. When she counts you down to a junction and announces turn right in 10 yds - she means it !The remarkable thing about Car
in is the way modern technology is harnessed to operate in such a user friendly manner, you really can imagine your faultless personal secretary sitting next to you. Carin anticipates, warns, calculates, responds all this and more pro-actively, intuitively and in real time.Dont just take our word for it:
Philips are real pros when it comes to route guidance. I like the Philips system . It is an object lesson in how to make an ergonomic head unit and provide an intuitive menu. Its mapping accuracy is good, and if you ask it to take the shortest route, it will, taking me on one occasion through a huge housing estate as a rat run
Telematics
I drive more than 80,000 miles a year for a living typically to and from airports in London and other cities and sat-nav has already proved invaluable. The obvious advantage is increased professionalism, as I no longer need to wrestle with a road map, and there are signifacant timesavings too. I may have lived and worked around London, but there are still large areas south of the Thames that I still dont know. On a typical drive into an unknown part of London, the Car
in saves 15-20 minutes on the journey. What Company Car?
The Car
in gets our vote. Its more informative and easier to follow when things get complicated, and is sufficiently versatile and trustworthy to be genuinely useful.Car magazine
